Dear Sir or Madam,
Thank you for visiting my blog. My name is Ankur Agarwal and I am the co-founder of a small company called vEmployee in India. We are a team of highly skilled programmers who specialize in PHP web application development. LAMP, and especially PHP has been my passion for the last ten years, and that's what we're really good at compared to anybody else. |
Since a blog is just a monologue, let me make some assumptions about you before I continue...
| |
I am assuming you are looking for a PHP programmer to build a web application for your new business idea or to take your existing business online. You are perhaps looking for a lead programmer with whom you could brainstorm your idea and understand what's possible. And then architect an elegant and fast solution so that your online app would be up and running ASAP. Maybe you'll want to add more programmers later, but right now you need somebody you could depend on as a guide and mentor.
Or maybe you already have a web application written in PHP by another programmer. It is half-finished or you just want to add more features. And you want a knowledgeable programmer who could bring it to completion or take it further. Somebody who has the sense to not break what is working and leverage the code that is already there. A programmer who would just dive in, understand the existing code base quickly and be up and running in no time.
Perhaps you are a software consulting firm in the United States and looking for a PHP programmer who could ghost-write web applications for your clients on your behalf. You need somebody to work as part of your team so that your clients have a seamless experience. Sometimes clients send half-finished specs and you want a creative and intelligent individual who would get the job done without eating up your valuable time asking every little detail. You would rather do it yourself if that were the case. |
I am also assuming you are NOT...
| |
You're not looking for a quick fix on your PHP web application. Because I don't accept consulting jobs less than three months (fulltime). While I'd be happy to help you with a quick fix if you are in trouble with your website, it would essentially imply that you will have a long-term assignment for me in the next few months or so. I'll do it for you to start a relationship.
You're not looking for cheap labor. You'll find them plenty on the internet. You don't need me if you all you need is a junior programmer to help you with some simple apps, or may be just do simple coding under the close supervision of your local lead programmer.

So let's move on. Let me tell you a little bit about myself first.
I have been programming as a hobbyist for twenty five years. I started as a kid and my first computer was the BBC Micro. We used to write games in gwbasic and play them amongst ourselves. Hangman and some word games were my favourite.
My first professional break came some twelve years ago after I graduated from one of India's topmost colleges, Institute of Technology, BHU. I was picked up as a software engineer by Infosys Technologies, one of the largest and most prestigious IT firms in India, and now in the world.
It was at Infosys that I metamorphosed from a rookie programmer to a real professional. Fortunately my first client was a Japanese company. And Japanese are known for their discipline and quality control. Their standards are so high, much-much higher than what we Indians and Americans can ever imagine. If you've seen the movie, The Last Samurai, you'll understand what I'm talking about. There's a scene in this movie when Tom Cruise, who's in captivity of a Japanese war leader, wakes up early in the morning and sees that everybody in the village is out 'perfecting their craft'.
I was fortunate to start my career with Infosys, with a Japanese company as my first client. That laid the foundation of what I did subsequently and what I do now - running a PHP consulting firm. It gave me the discipline and persistence to start my first venture in which I holed up myself in my apartment for a year and single-handedly built an IP-based faxing product which was at par with what some of the leading software companies in US and Canada had built at that time with large teams and significantly bigger budgets.
I was introduced to the PHP programming language for the first time in around 2001. It was just in the initial stages, but already spreading in the developer community like wild fire. I loved the simplicity of the language because it let me focus on the business logic and user interface rather than the syntax. And it could do almost everything that other more complex languages could do. Although I still had to write my cron jobs in Perl ;)
I started vEmployee in around 2002. My goal was to build a team of talented programmers who share my passion for PHP programming language, writing usable and intelligent web applications and instil in them the same work ethics I learnt when working for the Japanese.
My philosophy was rewarded fairly quickly when I won the Skype developer competition, and my team's work was appreciated by Niklas Zenstrom, the CEO and Founder of Skype.

I'm thrilled to congratulate Jyve for winning our developer competition. The competition was fierce and we are so excited by the creativity of the developer community, and can’t wait to work more with this ever expanding network of partners

But the icing on the cake was when we won it again the next year! Even Meg Whitman, the CEO of eBay, appreciated and talked about us in the eBay Investor Presentation.
Over the years I have hand-picked some of the most talented programmers and built one of the best PHP teams ever. Just out of curiosity, few years ago I asked some of my team members to take the PHP brainbench test. You know, Brainbench is a global leader in knowledge, skill and ability assessment especially for programmers. I wanted to see where my team stacks up against other expert PHP programmers.
Three of them made it to the top 10 list. One of them reached the number 1 slot, and dominated that position for many years!
Let me tell you a little about our engagement model.
I work on a concept called Virtual Employee (hence the name vEmployee). When you hire one of my programmers, he will work with you like any other fulltime employee. The only difference would be, he will work remotely from my office in India.
For each programmer we require a minimum three months contract. It doesn't have to be a single 3-months project. Most of my clients who are software consulting firms usually stack up the programmers with a couple of projects simultaneously.
So this programmer will be your anchor for all your PHP programming needs. He will communicate with you on a daily basis on Skype or IM, discuss your requirements, architect solutions, and code the applications for you.
We use an online project management tool to manage all aspects of the project and communication. It's a really sophisticated application that allows my clients to track the various parts of the project and keep them updated in real time. Apart from tracking tasks and the project itself, programmers fill their daily timesheet here, as well as write their daily blogs.
Well, blogs are something really unique that we do. At the end of every day, the programmer sits down and mulls over what he has done and achieved that day. What options he faced and what solutions he considered. All that goes into a well written blog. It's like a journal which helps the individual reflect and grow from his own experience. It also helps the clients get into the minds of the programmer, sometimes just out of curiosity, and at other times to understand what's going on in his world.
I am a staunch believer of coding standards. Even when I used to code alone, my code was always impeccable. My team is as passionate about writing beautiful code. It not only helps to keep the code readable by other programmers when the team size grows, but it also results in efficient coding.
But if you ask me what is the one thing that really sets us apart, my answer would be Ideas Diary. This is a unique concept which we started a few years ago after studying why some of our clients were more successful than others. There's a long story behind it, but in a nutshell, every programmer in my team maintains a diary in which he notes down any idea that pops up in his mind. Anything that would make the client's business more successful. Ideas range from code and usability improvements to studying competitor websites and suggesting better features. The programmers immerse themselves in the client's business and act like growth consultants with the single aim of making their clients more successful. I think that is the main reason why my clients keep growing over the years and they continue to work with me much beyond the minimum three months contract. Some of my clients have been with me for over five years now.
There are a lot of other things that makes my team special. We'll discuss about it in more detail when we connect. Let me quickly wrap up by telling you what you can expect after you fill up the contact form.
As soon as we receive your inquiry, someone from my team will call you back. One of my non-technical staff monitors emails till about 5 PM (US Eastern Standard Time) and he will call back immediately if it's before then. Otherwise he will contact you the next morning.
If required, we will schedule a second call along with one of my PHP consultants to discuss about your requirements. If you need any technical suggestions, feel free to ask him. We may have to do a couple of calls to really understand your vision or requirements. An analyst may also be part of the call to document the vision.
After the first call with the PHP consultant, our sales manager would take you through a presentation that will give you more details. You will get a better understanding of what we do and how we do it. You will also get a chance to discuss rates and engagement period.
We will send you our portfolio which will give you an idea of the kind of web applications my team has built. We've done hundreds of apps, so if you'd like to see any specific kind of application, feel free to ask. We'll highlight them in the portfolio before sending.
If you want to check references please ask for a list of our clients. Feel free to email to call them.
We will then proceed to sign the agreement. As soon as the agreement is signed, and if the programmer is available immediately, we will introduce you to him. Billing starts only when the programmer starts working with you fulltime. Sometimes he may need time to understand your requirements and business so that he can be up and running from the first day of engagement.
I have also included testimonials of some clients below. Feel free to browse through them at your convenience.
Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.

I cannot say enough about Ankur and his company. This is one of the few programming companies that I have worked with which exceeds all expectations. I have worked with eight different developers and up to two programming teams within Ankur's company and all have been very intelligent, professional and, most importantly, provide direction and recommendations for developing more efficient and user-friendly sites. I highly recommend Ankur!!

When we started our company, Assurity Technologies, my business partner and I had a vision for a software product with an immediate market opportunity. When considering our options for development, we decided to outsource development principally because the cost of onshore development was prohibitive.
Selecting a partner was the next challenge. Using Google as our research tool, we identified several firms ranging in size, all located in India. We selected Clarion Technologies principally on personalities. We trusted the management team, we liked their methodology, and we felt their expertise would lend value to our business beyond the code they produced. Clarion has exceeded all of our expectations.
We’ve been working with Clarion now for over two years. They've seen us grow from a start-up consisting of two people, to the successful launch of our product, through to the acquisition of our company by a larger publicly traded organization. In just over two years, our product is now used by over 30 large multinational companies to manage compliance requirements around the account reconciliation function, providing the proof required to support the executive attestation requirement under Sarbanes-Oxley.
Clarion continues to be a valued member of our team, even post acquisition. We are pleased to report that our partnership with Clarion has delivered benefits we did not originally factor into our assessment, including a faster time to market due to a 24 hour work day, as well as the benefit of best practices developed through the larger Clarion organization. We simply couldn’t have done it without them.

Into The Blue is one of the UK's largest experiences and experience gift companies. From humble beginnings, selling flying lessons our range of experiences has grown to over 500 activities. We recently re-designed our website to show our activities in a clearer way to our visitors and needed a competent programming company to enhance our systems, build more features in to our admin system and to add more features to the activity pages of our website.
We researched the outsourcing market in depth and drew up a short list of companies around the world that looked reputable. We then entered in to conversation with the top 5 outsourced programming companies comparing their processes, prices, products and people.
vEmployee made it in to the top 2 companies that we were speaking to at that time. We then asked both companies for a comprehensive list of businesses they currently provided work for and we selected 5 suitable references from both lists. At the end of the process of taking up references it was clear that vEmployee were clearly capable of providing us with the best long term, dedicated developer to support our business in our growth.
We appointed vEmployee in January 2008 and our developer, project manager and customer relationship manager all made contact quickly. Since then we can list numerous experiences of outstanding programming work over and above the normal exceptional work! Our developer quickly got to grips with our complex content management and activity gift voucher production system and started on the improvements we had outlined.
Working with vEmployee has opened our business to new possibilities and has removed the main barrier to growth which is escalating costs. The time difference between the UK and India has really worked to our advantage and it’s great to get in to the office and find our developer already working, on more than one occasion it has been necessary for us to contact our developer outside of office hours and at the weekend for some emergency work and he has responded brilliantly and worked whatever extra hours he has needed to do in the call of duty.
Our experience at Intotheblue has been very positive indeed and our gift voucher production has become even more efficient and voucher sales have increased after deciding to award the contract to vEmployee.
I would be very happy to provide up to date email or telephone references to any business considering outsourcing as an option.

We have worked with vEmployee for close to 3 years while they developed our web based Display Management System.
During the development of our product they quickly understood our needs and requirements and have consistently delivered well-written, well-documented code and on time.
Their business model of having all the expertise on staff, required to develop a complex product such as ours, saved us time and money, while all the time allowing us to keep "up to the minute control" of all aspects of the development through their Online Project Management Tool. Teaming up with vEmployee also allowed us the flexibility and freedom to hire staff better suited to the needs of a start up.
We have had nothing but a good experience and value for money working with vEmployee. In the past we tried to develop with other companies from India and Romania, but with bad results, and after almost giving up we found vEmployee.
Without hesitation we would recommend vEmployee and deem it a pleasure to discuss our experience with any prospective clients.
Sincerely,
Rod Cummings

Dear vEmployee and it's employees,
I am writing this unsolicited testimony in thanks to the wonderful employees at vEmployee. This testimony should help other companies to understand the benefits of using your company which are both based on price and competency.
I own and run a very successful internet company in the US. I have worked with many developers and programming companies over the past 10 years that have assisted my firm with various projects, both simple and complicated. Each company in the past has always shown it's limitations unlike the staff at vEmployee.
I have worked with about 6 developers at C.T. on various projects so far, and I have been extremely happy with the outcome and the time that each project as taken to complete.
The level of competency is high and the communication is great! There is no lack of communication despite the difference in countries.
I would advise any company of any size that is seeking an affordable solution and looking for both reliability and accountability to give this company a try like I have. I have already recommended vEmployee several times and everyone that I have recommended has been extremely pleased with the outcome of their projects.
Kudos to the staff at vEmployee - I'll continue to use them for future projects, as we normally have 1-2 of them in the pipeline each year.
Respectfully,
Michael A Siravo III
